If this is true, that podcasting is going to generate $400 million in ads – then Rex Dixon is holding off on the podcasting plans. You see, advertisers, I’m a mega super podcasting giant. Now let the bidding wars begin. My show 7 Minutes with Rex Dixon has taken off into cult status these days. It’s quite amazing, and the fans want more, and that’s cool, but Rex Dixon wants a slice of that $400 milliion pie. My last show alone has become a cult status must have episode.
Podcasting, the hot new media darling before YouTube mania swept in, is poised for a major growth spurt in ad dollars, despite the fact that the young medium’s usage has failed to match the recent proliferation of Apple’s iPod and other MP3-playing devices.
That’s according to a report to be released by eMarketer this week, which finds that spending on podcasting advertising will quintuple over the next five years, from a paltry $80 million base in 2006 to a $400 million market in 2011. (Granted, this is still on the small side, considering the $20 billion interactive ad market expected this year.)
Technically Speaking, it pretty much makes sense for me to hold off on the podcasting for now. Until some sponsor with a fat wallet brings me out of the podcasting offline mode, I’ll just watch my stats climb. I wouldn’t have said anything about this at all. As you all know, I have had no time to do a podcast lately. This new domain as well as the GMAFB and the Video stuff has kept me stretched thin.
The only reason I even mention the above is that I looked at my numbers the other night, and I was quite suprised. Folks, I do not make this stuff up. Okay – Give Me A Friggin’ Break, right? :)
