EMI and DRM
As I had stated already, it seems that everyone is now agreeing this morning, that EMI will announce the demise of DRM today. This should occur in about 2 hours time (1pm London, 8am eastern, 5am pacific).
The sad thing is that the Reuters article above is still stating “significant amounts” and not their entire catalog. Also, note – “no Beatles” – yet. This isn’t stopping even from Mashable reporting this. I guess in a sense it could be considered “social networking news”. I totally understand, as with all the funny April 1st going’s on, there wasn’t much late last night to really touch on.
TechCrunch even had the EMI flyer with more information on it. This all comes from the original Wall Street Journal article, that for some reason is “no longer available”.
Technically Speaking, it could be a big day for music, but I wonder how far behind the rest of the labels will be in adopting this idea? Has EMI been pushed to the front of the record label pack as the test guinea pig? Only time will tell.
