Houston, we have a problem. That problem is something I have discussed with several different people over the past week. The issue is not that we need faster broadband, or faster computers. What we need now is a mainstream American education program on internet literacy.
Internet literacy is at a shocking low. It is shocking to me, as I am one that didn’t grow up with a computer in the house. I was in fact discussing that very point this evening, about when I was younger, how I bought a lawnmower for like $5 and started my own lawn mowing business. It was about the same time that I was pretty athletic, and what we did after school was get outside and play pick up games of basketball, football, or baseball.
Times have changed and that is fine by me. What is distressing is that people in the mainstream still are clueless of what goes on here in the blogosphere. They are catching up a day late and dollar short (yes, one of my favorite sayings!), and at the same time their kids bedding might be from 1982. I guarantee that even if that is the case, the child has a laptop or desktop gaming system, an XBox, and a PSP or PS3.
What is wrong with that? Nothing as times have changed. What is again, very comical is that someone as affluent as George Clooney can make statements such as the above. Is the guy serious? Was he just trying to make a good interview?
Technically Speaking, it’s time for the mainstream to tune in to what is going on. This isn’t 1998, and the internet has come further and faster in 9 years then most remember.
