TalentSpring, a new fun way to find a job…
Possibly one of the more interesting ways to get a job was launched today. It’s called TalentSpring, and it’s like running the gauntlet through your peers to get to the top. In this country of American Idol’ism, and other reality based shows, I guess we should have seen this coming. Not to mention how everyone online has digg’itis, it is a no brainer that we are going to be voting on your peers.
I understand the frustration of trying to stand out in your field of expertise more then anyone else. I think that something needs to be done with the entire recruitment and hiring process. More often than not, your own connections will play a vital role. That and some lucky breaks will usually find you a job over just your resume. Not only that, how do you know that the most qualified person is someone worth talking with in the first place? The person could be a real a$$ monkey for lack of a better term right now.
Now the way this works is that you have to submit your resume and then “vote” on 12 other people. From what I see, they put you up against competition ie.. your resume vs another person’s, and then you get to say whether candidate “A” or “B” is stronger. Based on that, your resume moves up or down the list for recruiters to choose from. The more times you are voted stronger in your particular field or the particular job, the higher your resume goes.
Now the writer who use to be in the recruiting business says this would have been great to have when he worked in the biz. My brother in law is currently working in the business, since the IT market has blown wide open again. I feel though, you are going to meet more a$$ monkey’s that may rank high on skills, but low on personality.
Technically Speaking, back in the day, personality ruled over how technical you really were. Anyone with the aptitude in information technology can pick up anything rather quickly. If you have a long line of different skills, yup such as Rex Dixon here, given a short learning cycle this monkey like any other monkey can learn quickly. Not only that, I’m more fun to be around. No a$$ monkey here!
