Popfly is going to be fun. It appears to be a worthwhile use of Silverlight. These are the types of releases that made Microsoft who they are today. Well for that matter, this would make any developer’s tool worthwhile. Whether it be Google, Yahoo, or even Joe’s Garage Software.
Now, I haven’t signed up for my own Popfly site yet as Chris has, but I will in the very near future. I have already installed Microsoft Silverlight 1.0, and it’s such a painless install. I know that everyone that has been around computing in general for many years such as I have, is quite impressed.
There of course are the naysayers. The ones that just like to complain about anything Microsoft. I look at like this. If you were around before Microsoft took over, I can see your point. I understand that you just don’t like the domination they did in the late 80′s and early 90′s. You don’t like seeing a company crush the competition. I was there, I witnessed the domination unfold. I remember more OS’ then probably your memory of how many beers you had last night.
Yet, you are the first to support Google’s buying up of everything. You support Yahoo slipping some cash to small companies. What’s the difference? Really there isn’t. There are big companies, and there are bigger companies. That is the nature of the beast.
I will have to say, I like what I saw initially from Silverlight. So the main complaint that we will hear is of course “not Linux supported“, “not Mac supported“, and “not Joe’s Garage Software” compatible. Tough cookies folks. Microsoft does things their own way, and that is the bottom line on that. We all are use to it, and just because it’s MS, don’t avoid it like the plague.
Technically Speaking, if you don’t get over today or over the weekend to check this out, it’s your loss. Rip it to shreds if you like, but something tells me that this product is a good release. In fact from what I have seen created out of Silverlight thus far, it’s a great new product release. Popfly is the first big community oriented application online for all of you to check out for yourself.
