Yes I am. All will become air apparent very very soon. Let’s just say that currently I am “living my dream“. It’s been a very busy few days for me, and I will go update that Link Blog in a few moments. Do I really read Piers Anthony?
Nah, and I probably should. I just thought that was always one of the most creative “roll off your tongue” band names that I wished I would have thought of. The band “Air Apparent” was/is an actual band out of the Seattle area from the late 80′s / early 90′s. I was introduced to them by my old band’s drummer at the time.
What jumped off the news pages this morning while I take a short break?
Well the fact that Dell is going to be releasing Ubuntu 7.04 installed PC’s and laptop’s. This is a big move for furthering the presence of Linux in the world. I hope that the systems are configured so that someone from Potosi, MO can use it. I’m only joking about Potosi, MO; so if you are from there, please don’t take offense. I use that town as an example of where all of these companies need to reach.
It could be Alhambra, IL for that matter. What I am saying is that the distribution of Linux on Dell is a great idea. In fact, it’s much better then talking about algorithm’s to people. The people in Alhambra, IL and Potosi, MO could care less about algorithms. What they care about is the fact of brand. Google, Yahoo, Dell, Microsoft Windows is synonymous while Ask.com, blogging, and Linux is a bit like telling them about the great restaurants in Bejing, China.
I was talking to another startup company person last night, and one thing that I relayed to him was the above fact. You need to get to the people in Potosi, MO and Alhambra, IL. Until you do that, you are pretty much laying below being mentioned in diners in Scotland, SD. The only computer talk there is guaranteed to be, “So I was out on that internet, and I went on Google to find this great restaurant. While I was doing that, I was bidding on eBay, while also prettying up my MySpace page.”
When will it be, “I was online, and read a really good blog, while I was out on Glimpse.com shopping for new clothes (who I talked about here). I also found what I really was looking for on Ask.com, and my Dell E1505n laptop with Linux was smoking!”? When? When the marketing people behind these companies realize the above fact. Until this fact is realized, it will be time to issue Survival Kits for all the employees.
Congratulations to Ubuntu’s marketing team in forging this relationship with Dell. If you buy one today, let us all know how it rocks!
The other interesting item this morning is Google starting a closed beta test of adsense for videos. I will have to agree with this writer, as they seem to be running on day late, dollar short syndrome. I believe I have seen in the past couple of weeks more then one video company trying out different ways of monetizing video content. Google should have been one of the first.
Technically Speaking, that is all the time I have now.
