Blogging is NOT journalism

Even though Dan refers to many sites daily that are blogs, we all know that blogs are not journalism. In fact, most bloggers already know that we in no way compare to the pros. We may have the scoops, the first looks, and journalists may read us daily, but we never have claimed to be a journalist.

But I can name more than a few bloggers whose work I rely on more than the output from traditional journalists covering the same subjects. Some community Web sites are beating local newspapers and TV to big stories. And citizen journalists of all stripes are looking deeply into niche topics that big media ignore or cover shallowly.

Technically Speaking, at least from my perspective, I’m a social media person. No claims of journalistic knowledge or experience here. End of story.
