Record label killer…
Well, well something that truly interests me pops up today. This new little idea is from Peter Rojas who is I admired when he was over at Engadget (gadgets are cool!), and now it appears that he understands what box that was opened all those years ago by Pandora (Napster). He also understands that record labels have been screwing over artists for years. In fact so much, that one of my favorite newer bands dropped off their major label. They seem to be doing quite well doing the independent route now.
June 11, 2007 — In a move designed to upend the traditional record label business model, Downtown Records and Internet entrepreneur Peter Rojas plan to launch an online-only record label that will offer its music for free and generate revenue only through advertising and sponsorships, The Post has learned.
In fact, I say to every band and artist that I can offer an opinion – stay independent. If you believe in what you are doing musically, there is no reason to sign to any label just to say you are “signed”. Ask these guys who have been doing what they love for over 10 years now. They are just as enthusiastic about their music as the day I met them when we were on the same show like almost 7 years ago!
Technically Speaking, time flies as you get older, but memories are forever.
