American Express knows what works – Social Networking

1openforum-screenshot.jpgOpenForum was launched on June 26th. It appears that American Express knows a winning combination – social networking and small businesses. There are very few social networks that address this area. Ojeez is one of them. Can anyone name another business friendly social network? One that dedicates itself to social networking for the small business person?

It’s a wide open space, and if you think you have the kahunas to get in on the social networking realm, I think there could be a few more in this niche area. In fact, I am sure that as I type this, there is someone already coding one. There are many naysayers to the social networking realm, I’m in fact one of them.

Problem is, this is where a majority of VC/angel money is dumped. Social Networks. Start one, and you are pretty much guaranteed to get some money if you yourself are social-able enough to speak to a VC/angel! VC’s and angel’s are rarely interested in a traditional business these days. Basically, no matter my feelings on “too many social networks”, sometimes you just have to follow the money.

The thing that is different about Ojeez as an example is that they are doing revenue sharing. They are also encouraging and building it for business people; small businesses. This is an area that is still open.

Technically Speaking, I don’t have much information about OpenForum, but another entry into the business social networking arena can only mean someone is testing and writing code right now! :)
