The thing I like about these type of rumors is how quickly blogs pick up on it. The $6 Billion rumor I actually saw on Mashable first, and ignored it. It appears that John Battelle is covering it now. Also, it appears to have started by either Tech Trader Daily or Internet Outsider.
Who started it? I’m thinking it is a shrewd PR move considering that MySpace is playing the PR game this week. I wouldn’t doubt if this was nicely timed rumor mill dropping into the right hands.
Technically Speaking, do I believe it? Well “never say never” is my motto, but for now, let’s just imagine Mark Zuckerberg kicking up his open toed sandals and laughing as he watches the stats on Facebook climb even higher today. Great tactic, that didn’t require much thought. This is what social media can do for you.
