Google and the 700mhz, CBS is pushing, Hollywood is dying

Google and the 700mhz – Google has gobs of cash. They are not shy about dumping $4.6 Billion on the 700 mhz spectrum. In fact they have dumped $25 million in anticipation of winning the auction for that wireless spectrum. Now the one item I read that has me scratching my head right now, is that Google’s official stance is that $4.6 Billion might be a low bid.

On what planet? In which universe? That amount of money is a lot, and there are only a few companies that I know that could match that amount. As Om noted, Eric has already sent in a letter to the FCC. I wonder if one of the conditions is that all 10,000 plus Google employees receive an Orlando rental home.

CBS is pushing – They are pushing content online, and are saying they will be on over 400 sites by the fall. That is good news for online video. NBC is also pushing online as we have recently seen with their new social network, and other online ventures. To be quite honest, if you aren’t online these days, you probably are in a traditional old Web -1.0 job or career field.

Hollywood is dying - Can you blame the writers for wanting a bit of Web 2.5 money? I really can’t. I mean, why would you want to sit in contract talks with Hollywood studios to try to convince them to put out your masterpiece script? Why not just come online and put it out yourself? The profit margin would be greater if you have a hit, and with CBS coming online, who knows, they might buy it for one of their 400 sites!

Technically Speaking, it is Friday and I hope it is treating you well.
