If you really want me to produce your next music track, your album, your lot of songs – just ask me. One of the strangest reactions I’ve had lately is someone hitting me up on a buzz message stating that. While I wouldn’t mind producing music, and have helped to do so before, just ask directly would be the easiest way to get me to do this. Asking via a vague buzz message doesn’t seem to take on the seriousness that music production requires.

Serious about your music and what it takes to make it in the music biz, ping me directly, not vaguely. Thanks and have a great weekend. Please keep in mind I wrote this post about ~2 weeks ago. It’s so far been a nice outlet of thought that processes in my head during the day.

If you long to get the band back together, that sometimes just isn’t going to be possible. For a gruesome example of that, take a look at any recent death by overdose or otherwise of bands of the past ~20 years or so. They’ll never reunite or get back together. Same goes for some bands I’ve been throughout my life. Due to either distance from where I currently reside, or just bands breaking up badly with a lot of feelings being hurt.

Well at the beginning of 2011 (yes, my new year’s resolution of sorts), I decided that the band would never get back together, but I still loved to play. Due to me not really playing much in the past ~10 years since my last full time band went to nevermore, I figured – “screw it, time to just jam“.

I started that journey by taking it to the top of the mountain and meeting the local yoda of guitar. While he didn’t tell me anything really new that I didn’t already know, he did inspire me to forge on with my quest. He did provide some ideas of theory that I wasn’t too keen on; or rather that I ignored a lot.

I spent time going over the major scale again, as well as other things. Of course I felt stuck in a rut, but things were getting better. Now being it’s September, 9 months later, I can say I have played pretty much every day minus a few. I have jammed with a few other people earlier in the year, that didn’t quite work out. I’m actually a better player than I’ve been. I can actually pick out cover songs rather quickly now.

Of course that has negated a lot of my original writing skills, but lately I find that it’s coming back now that I’ve learned how most songs are structured by figuring out the cover route aspect. Where to from here is anyone’s guess. At least I’ve renewed a kindred spirit and love for just playing. Thanks yoda!

Can you code? Or you do you know someone that does code – php, java, rails, hadoop, etc… Whatever the flavor, not really concerned since I’m not a coder, but need someone that is coder who is also personable and willing to be CTO/Co-Founder in a startup to help people online.

No previous CTO experience necessary.

No previous startup experience or relationship in the past with me personally is needed.

Location isn’t a big factor since we can do this with the available tools in 2011. Would like the person to be USA based however and have a good grasp of the English language (doesn’t have to be that person’s primary language, but should be able to communicate in English so that others can understand).

pinwUrm is an Albany, NY band / music project headed up by Vance Savage and Igor Rabovsky who are both accomplished musicians.

Their music is in the vein of Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails to mention some bands that needs no introduction. In fact they do a great send up cover of Ministry’s N.W.O. which they are dubbing it as Nuw Wurld Urder.

They are concentrating on originals, one of which they recently released and called it: Ta-tata-taa which in their mind was just something fun to do. They have a ReverbNation page located here, but in my last conversations with Vance, he was having to re-encode many of their tracks to be RN compatible.

Since I’ve had the privilege of hearing some of their unreleased tracks already, I can personally let you know that once the completed tracks are done, I believe you’ll be grooving along to the sounds of pinwUrm. Have no fear, as even if you are not local to Albany, NY (I’m NOT either!), I feel some of their tracks will end up in film scores if you don’t have the opportunity to catch them live.

As a side note: I’ve personally known Vance for awhile now, as he is the drum teacher of Fatefully Fallen‘s talented drummer who drives their sonic assault. Fatefully Fallen has a debut self-engineered recordings – What Remains (self-engineered demo).

Make sure to follow pinwUrm on their Facebook page to keep up to date on their upcoming track releases which should be very soon. Look for them live on the Albany, NY scene more than likely in the Fall/Winter of 2011-2012.

Working inside of the startup world,  as I have for a few years now,  gives me an entirely fresh perspective on how poorly fact checked most blogs and blog posts are. If there is a hot on the top of the minute story, you can bet you’ll read ~10 articles before you read the whole truth. Sometimes all you will read are nothing more than un-fact checked, mis-informed facts to resemble some sort of truth in that writers head. Most of what is published, even some of the sites that have the gall to be related to a media company, are full of what data is available at the minute. ie: if someone else wrote it first – well it must be the truth.

Nothing could be further from the truth. While the first post starts going viral, everyone wants to jump on the wagon train. No one fact checks, no one puts in an e-mail or call to the companies they are talking about. They in fact won’t even note it in their post, which they should as in ie: “we e-mailed the company, and the company has declined a response“, at the very least. No need, they are a blogger and therefore they must retrieve part of that pageview pie.

The thing that gets me the most, is that the readers who flock to the sites to give their money to the sites in pageviews, and higher monetization of their content, believe each and every post that is published there. Once any story of the moment reaches global reach, or when the time zone in the Pacific reaches past 8am in the morning, everyone is writing or re-writing the same story and linking to the same main story. That original story by now is totally viral and over half the time, the site is down due to the overload.

Everyone is quite happy and there is a pageview spike that has the republican trickle down effect we all love to be abused by. The hilarious thing is that the truth is still never even uncovered, or in the case of the blogger or site – covered. No story wraps it up, as the next pageview spiker is on the burner and the story needs to be churned. And even funnier from the perspective of someone who has been there, are stories that are splinter stories from the main story that even the person writing it has no idea that might be the real story!

Damn the truth. Lie if it causes your pageviews to jump. It’s the blogger way, and I don’t see any changes anytime soon.

Technically Speaking, just because you read it online, doesn’t necessarily mean you read the truth. After all the items I have read online about the different startups I have worked for, it pains me to say this (it doesn’t, but sounded good to say that) – I’m so glad I don’t rely on my blogging, pageviews, and the general white lie to get ahead. I guess I was never cut out to be a page view cut throat blogger, but it does give me a good laugh to read what some people call journalism.

Ebay

No article about making money online would be complete without mention of eBay. While it’s not as good as it once was for the person looking to make money fast on the Internet, it still allows many people to stay home and make a darn good income from selling goods online.

You can find goods to sell on eBay on Craigslist, Garage Sales, Big Box stores like Sam’s and Costco and in your own home. I bet most of us have stuff we haven’t used in months that could be auctioned off on eBay to make a quick dollar or two.

Time was once where you could go out and hit Garage sales and Estate auctions and bring the stuff back to your home, list it on eBay and make some good money. You can still do that, but the money isn’t as good as it once was because of the higher listing fees and many of the commercial companies drowning out the smaller individual auctions.

A way some people have started taking advantage of these changes at eBay is to start their own stores. ProStores is an eBay company that offers several packages that make it easy to get up and running with your very own ecommerce store. This is a great way to get started without having to know a lot about web programming and using a lot of different programs. There are any number of places on the Internet where you can go and sign up as a freelance writer. Many people do not realize that there is a great demand for Writers due to the need for Content on the Internet. I myself buy a lot of articles written by several of these services. Businesses, Internet Marketers and mainstream sites like About.com all use freelance writers. The best part is, you don’t have to be an expert writer in most cases.

One of these services, Freelance Home Writers, is a membership site that you join to access databases of companies looking for writers. You then pick and choose which writing jobs you want and just pass over the ones you don’t want. Typically you’ll be writing Blog post and Content articles for Websites. However you can get the chance to write fiction and non-fiction story’s as well. They also have several other opportunities for you to make money on the Internet. That’s pretty good money for people who can turn out a few articles per day. Currently they’re running a $2.97 for a 7 day trial. Read Emails – Take Online Surveys – Product Evaluation

In my opinion, this isn’t as easy as Project Payday, but it’s real close. There are companies that receive thousands of emails every day that need to be read. Obviously the CEO or other employees can’t spend every day reading emails, so they outsource this.

There are several companies where they outsource this type of work as well as other tedious, time consuming chores such as product testing and evaluation, online surveys, online mystery shopping and others. Etsy

Do you create crafts? Etsy is a huge online marketplace where people sell their crafts. Since it draws people looking for handmade products or craft supplies, Sellers find it more profitable for many crafts than eBay.

My Wife and Mother-In-Law have sold many items on Etsy including quilts and hand sewn dolls. They received pretty respectable prices for their items, much more than what they received on eBay for items of similar nature.

As I guy, I have to admit there are some pretty interesting handmade crafts on that site. Some will make you scratch you head and wonder how anyone could make such a thing! If you have some crafts laying around you could get rid of, or if you could make some up quickly, then this might be the outlet for you to make money fast.

Craigslist

I love Craigslist! Mostly for the cool stuff I buy off of it in my local area. But Craigslist can also be a Goldmine if you’ll put the time into it. I call the method I use to make money from Craigslist “Craigslist Arbitrage” because this is how it works.

I scan the Free section of Craigslist looking for valuable things people are giving away. If you live near a large Metro area, you’ll simply be amazed at what others will give away just to get rid of it. You need to be quick, because others are doing the same thing you are! Once you pick up your Freebies, turn around and put them back on Craigslist for sale at a below market price. Chances are they’ll go quick and you’ll have made some quick cash.

I first learned of this when we were moving and I was trying to score free moving boxes. I was constantly amazed at how quick they would go until someone told me people do nothing more than drive around grabbing up free boxes and turning around and selling them for $1 or more per box. The same goes for Furniture, electronics and other items. You need to be sitting at your computer refreshing the FREE page often. You can also find great deals in other areas of Craigslist so don’t just spend all your time in the FREE section.

Sell Ebooks

Do you have a particular skill or knowledge? Maybe Award winning recipes? Special technique for training dogs? Then write an ebook. Don’t care or don’t think you have the skills to write an ebook? Then find a freelancer at one of the places mentioned above. Don’t think your idea will sell? You’d be surprised! I know of one gentleman who does quite well ($1000+ per month) selling an ebook on raising Tomatoes. Nuff said!

But if none of these thrill you, then there are places like BestChoiceForEbooks.Com where you can buy the Master Resell Rights to ebooks, software and other products and rebrand them for yourself and sell them. You get to keep all the profits! You can sell them on eBay, Craigslist or set up a PayPal order page and advertise your products. There are hundreds of ways to drive traffic to your sales page so don’t get stuck in a rut! Get yourself a network of sites specific to each product and promote the crap out of it to bring in some quick money.

Become a Go To Guru

Getting back to those special skills or knowledge you have, have you ever thought about becoming a Consultant? Everywhere you look these days, there are consultants for this and that. Consultants for organizing a home, creating a baby’s room, throwing wedding showers and the list goes on.

You’d be surprised at how much people will pay for information that they need and need quick! Show your community that you’re an expert in your field and they’ll beat a path to your door.

One great thing about this business is that it’s easy and inexpensive to start. You can do it part time, in the Evenings or on weekends right from your home. Over time you may find your “part time” job is making more money than your “real” job!

Have Camera, Will Take Photo’s

Do you like taking pictures with your digital camera? Have you thought about selling them but thought you weren’t good enough because you’re not a “professional”? Have to fear. Many people make extra money fast by selling their pictures online.

Websites like BigStockPhoto, ShutterStock, Fotolia and others pay you each time one of your photo’s are downloaded. Many of these sites pay anywhere from 25 cents per photo downloaded to a percentage of the commission on specialty photo’s.

Photographers who do this type of work are called Stock Photographers and the Photo’s they take are known as micro stock. It’s the same kind of pictures you’ll see on this site. Although 25 cents per photo doesn’t sound like much (some sites pay more), consider that you may have thousands of photo’s uploaded. One of the best know Stock Photographers is pulling down $300 or more a day from just one of the Stock Photography websites!

Another huge advantage of taking stock photography is that your photo’s keep making you money over and over and over. One of the best residual income generators on the Web. Not only is this making money fast, it’s making money fast again and again!

Small Business Web Design

With all the WYSIWYG web generation software out there today, just about anyone can make a website. Plus with programs like WordPress and Premium Themes, building an attractive and functional website is easier than ever.

There are Small Businesses everywhere looking for simple and functional sites. Many believe they have to spend thousands on a website. If you can go in and show them that they can have a eye appealing website that is functional and brings in customers for a few hundred bucks, they’ll be telling everyone they know.

Most freelance writers have several sources of writing work where they can get paid to write articles. Some are ongoing, some are one-off, and some are gap-fillers. All can be good. Read on for a bit about each of the above categories and how to go about getting those types of writing jobs.

There are content companies and busy clients that may offer you an all-you-can-write buffet. Having a few of these eggs can be a good thing because you can make fast money writing when you need to up your earnings or when you have a gap in your schedule. You an also spend some of your gaps working at upping your passive income streams through writing for revenue sharing sites, such as InfoBarrel and HubPages, or through developing content for your own sites and blogs.

How to find Writing Gigs:

Find ongoing and one-off clients by marketing on an ongoing basis. Freelance writers who market can get found by clients and some of those clients could provide you with regular work.

Music Makes a Difference

Now that I have this little project I am working on called, Random Access Radio Listening Party, I am seeing first hand how social networking and Music are a natural combination.  I guess you could say Woodstock was the first social networking group that brought people together with music.  Thank goodness for the internet which makes sharing music with people a lot easier than slopping around in the mud on a farm in New York.

Music, like golf, brings out a different part of a person.  You may see a hardcore senior executive who has been around the block a few times with the battles that are waged in the board rooms, but when you turn on a CD player with Bob Seger playing the salty old aristocrat starts putting on a clinic on how to play Air Guitar.  Music allows people to relax.

Music brings out memories of times you had when things were not as tough as they are now and we ALL could use some of those good memories to stave off the bad ones we are generating with the situation today’s world is in.  But, I am not here to talk politics unless listening to solid music with solid friends is political then you can place me to the far right on that issue making for a FUN time.

Golf + Music = FUN²

But back to the golf which I also hold in high regard as an activity that promotes social networking.  There are not many golfers I know who do not like music.  Recently I have seen where music playing afterwards at the 19th hole is preferred before watching the Golf Channel.  Guess there is something to the music an social networking thing.

Following the April 20 Release of Koonyum Sun, Xavier Rudd and Izintaba kick off their Summer 2010 tour August 13th with Rodrigo y Gabriela

WHO: LOS ANGELES, CA – Best-selling Australian singer-songwriter, Xavier Rudd, is set to launch a U.S. tour in support of his new album, Koonyum Sun. The album is his first recording with South African rhythm section comprised of Tio Moloantoa on Bass and Andile Nqubezelo, formerly of the late Lucky Dube’s band. Rudd, known for his must-be-seen-to-be-believed live show—where he often performs as a one-man band—will give North American audiences a chance to experience the new lineup live beginning August 13th. Xavier and Izintaba will join dueling guitarists Rodrigo y Gabriela for six dates in August.

Xavier, Tio and Andile formed a bond in the summer of 2008 at Austria’s Nuke festival. Their relationship—like their musical tastes—reflects a passion for unifying culture, sound and understanding. Moving away from the heavier-edged sound pursued on 2008’s Dark Shades of Blue, Xavier has shifted to an up-beat, hip-swaying sound, now backed by the tour de force of Tio and Andile under the new group “Xavier Rudd and Izintaba.”

Charleston City Paper experienced a preview of the new lineup this past summer, raving “With a powerful presence center stage, bassist Tio Molontoa cranked out some funky bass with a background of the aboriginal flag, while drummer Andile Nqubezelo, stage right, demolished the drums…From beginning to end Rudd’s performance had fans in a frenzy bobbing around to a fusion of Aboriginal Funk.”

Rudd is known for his extraordinary stage show that finds him performing guitar, didgeridoo and various percussion parts simultaneously—using a unique set-up that literally surrounds him with various instruments, singing from behind a stand holding three didgeridoos of different keys. He has led sold-out tours in Europe, Canada, Australia and the US, both headlining and supporting the likes of the Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson and Ben Harper. In Australia, he has collected a string of gold and platinum sales awards for his albums and DVDs.

Eliminate the We’s – Focus on the You’s: When reading your writing (huh?), do you find that you use the word “we” too much? Is your name or the name of your business mentioned too often? Your landing page should focus on the customer and should not be all about you or the “we” of your company. Resist writing copy that is too self-centered and more focused on the customer.

Answer Questions Before They Are Asked: Your readers should come away with the majority of their obvious questions answered before they have to ask them. Your message should be clear and concise so as not to leave readers wondering about your objectives.

Prove Yourself Worthy: If you are making any specific claims about solutions you offer or the product you are selling, be sure to include enough back up the proof to back up your claims. Simply telling people how great, how incredible, how miraculous your product/service is simply not good enough. Readers want to have tangible proof that you can do what you say you can do.

When writing headlines, I always try to include the words “you” or “your” to directly address the visitor. If somebody wants your product, it’s for their own personal gain, not because they find you interesting, and using these two words helps them imagine what it’s like to have this product solve all the problems.
