Not Giving Out a FREE T-Shirt #trashyaustin

The last contest on here seemed to generate not many hashtag comments as well as not many participants, this one is just a simple question I have.

It seems like there are two sides of the fence to Austin, TX. One side loves the place, and the other side say it’s the most boring place on the planet. I have also read a tip that it’s not very good to visit in July/August.

My bud who is also known as Church Tongue said the few people from Chicago that has traveled to Austin, TX have told him that the place is not worth the time and is boring. The contention is that while it’s suppose to be some sort of mecca like music capital, it is also been said to only occur on one street down there (6th street from what I hear).

The question here is,”How do you feel about Austin, TX or rather do you feel Austin, TX is cool place to live/visit or does the place suck?” You can reply via twitter and the hashtag of #trashyaustin. It’s more fun if you use twitter to respond to this, and responses can simply be like this “cool, love the music, best city in the world #trashyaustin” – “sucks, I got robbed in Austin, safe in Chicago! #trashyaustin” – you know something short and sweet < 140 characters for twitter.

This time, I’ll even take the comments that are associated with a blog post right below. That’s fine – but rather would see this stream be taken to the hashtag of #trashyaustin on twitter.

Now of course since twitter is like porn sometimes with the < 140 character limit, if you leave a comment here on this post – feel free to be very detailed on why or why not Austin, TX.

Technically Speaking, while I am not giving away FREE T-Shirt this time, I would like to see some opinions!

The Winning Moment

Here is the winning LIVE UStream drawing recording for the $25 eGC RizzoTees give away:

Technically Speaking, I’ve spoken to Church Tongue yesterday and he says to “Stay tuned for his next song coming very soon!” We might be doing another give away at that time! Oh the winner was entered into the contest with this simple comment.

Dumping Ground-Onomics

March 10th, 2009 Rex Dixon Comments

Not even a phrase until just now – Dumping Ground-Onomics. This means, I have a bunch of good stories that I won’t have time to write about today. Beyond a short blurb below, which has been called a Round Up in some circles, even by me. I figured it was time for a new term, and Dumping Ground-Onomics is that new term. Do you like it? Yes I could dump all of this on my tumblr blog, but figured that would be tumblr overkill.

Jive – Is going after the social business software market hardcore with their latest announcement today. Should be interesting how they fair in the corporate marketplace. The most interesting thing about this company is that they are not some new kids, but have been around since 2001.

drop.io – is rocking it right now with their real time conference room. Streaming is where it is at. The above chat/conference is really nice, and agree that streaming seems to be the key here along with real-time speed.

OneRiot – is the old medium resurrected. Looks like a good video search service.

Users will now be able to search through videos from more than 30 video hosts, and just as it handles Web queries, the engine will put recently “buzzing” videos on top. This means the results of any given search term will change on an almost daily basis depending on what’s trending, or as OneRiot calls it “raging.”

Guardian – They realized that newspapers are dying quickly. They also realized in the old saying of “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em“. Nice to see a good newspaper keep it alive the best they can. More about their open platform can be found here.

A few more interesting items that you should know about – Paymo and Hi5 working together, music site for indie music called thesixtyone, and lastly music’s darker side – EMI or rather the old world order doing what it does best – suing the new world order and innovation.

While this serves as a “wrap up/round up” for this Tuesday, I did however post two blogs over on siliconANGLE this morning – the first one – Free Ride Era is Ending – and – this one here – Monkey in your old High School Cliq. We need more writers/bloggers like the blog that was written yesterday – Content Distribution is Changing Again – by Nova Spivack.

Technically Speaking, if you are a blogger, social media person, or someone that likes to write about what I just put here on the dumping ground-onomics post – you need to come over to the siliconANGLE and register to be a regular contributor!

siliconANGLE Round Up

siliconangle-logoWell it’s Friday once again, and time for a quick siliconANGLE round up post. Things are starting to really heat up over there with new contributors coming in and dropping a post or two down. We have other contributors coming soon! That means – you won’t have to read my constant angle, or Rizzn’s, or John’s! There will be other bloggers that you’ll recognize by name. Nate D’Amico showed up the other night for example.

Below are some posts over the past 24 hours or so, check it out and be sure to start following us on twitter: siliconANGLE, John Furrier, Mark “Rizzn” Hopkins, Rex Dixon. Put us in your RSS feed!

Six Degrees Of Social Separation
– Or basically me trying to interconnect many stories into one post, and make it come out smelling like a rose. I think I did a good job of it, as by the time you get to the end, you just realized the story trip I took you on!

Niche Startups You Might Miss – Two startups that you might just pass by completely. I saw them this morning, and decided that since it was Friday, maybe some people out there would have time to check them out over the weekend. The one is a site that is purposely targeted to the demographic of women over 40, but the other one is a very interesting and valuable piece of software if you work in the IT industry, at least it should be in my opinion.

Client/Server Apps Making a Big Comeback – Nate D’Amico makes his second posting and appearance giving his angle on the infrastructure area. Glad to see Nate laying down his angle.

Jason Calacanis Makes No Apologies for Hiring a Hacker
– Rizzn covers the Calacanis issue on this post. Nothing to take lightly, but than again, Jason is letting the guy keep his job until he goes to prison. How does it affect Mahalo? Only time will tell!

Cloud Math: They Didn’t Have this Course at my School
– Rizzn again explains this bit of fuzzy math, or really lays it out there for you to ponder. I sure pondered it after reading it, as that kind of math causes all sorts of problems.

Online Parenting: Part I: Cyber-bullying: Who is responsible enough to take the first step? Parents, Law Enforcement, Social Networks, or the Schools? – Long title, but really good thought provoking post by Linda Miola Furrier. Hopefully Part 2 will be coming up soon, as this is going to be an issue that won’t be going away until someone grabs it and owns it. No one so far has been willing to take hold of this major issue.

Technically Speaking, that is not even the complete 24 hours over on siliconANGLE! There still is the Zoho post, the Green Tech post, and the twitter nation post from yesterday (Thursday 3/5/09). So read the above and even the ones linked in this paragraph if you have the time or interest. We encourage you to sign up and become a regular contributor!

Nuclear – That is my follow cost

The more twitter grows, the more people try to do something different with the API. Here is one that I thought was rather amusing. It’s called follow cost. After seeing this, you may not want to follow me!

Technically Speaking, the more we twitter and tweet, the more fun things that people will come up with.

DaddySpankGood, and other Twitter Distractions

February 25th, 2009 Rex Dixon Comments

dsg-logoDaddySpankGood, sounds like a seriously perverted porno or BDSM site. Of course if it was, do you think I’d really take the time to write about it? It’s not a BDSM or porno site at all. It is however a very easy to promote name for another Hollywood gossip site. While the site looks a bit amateur from the get go, the news stories like the top one this morning are rather insightful (to me at least!) for Hollywood gossip. As you can tell by that statement – I don’t follow a lot of Hollywood Gossip sites!

Why am I devoting any time at all to this DaddySpankGood site? It’s to address some of the necessary evils of twitter. Since some blogs are refusing to talk about twitter (and I’m SO THANKFUL they are doing that!), I figured I may was well twit-out here for awhile. The bad or evil underlying layer of the twitter universe is the fact that blogs or sites such as the one mentioned here have it easy. They understand and grasp twitter quickly. They are actually marketing guru’s of the new media age we live in.

While I won’t follow every Hollywood Gossip blog as I have better things to be doing, this one since they took a chance on me on a day I feel rather open to new sites, I’ll keep them for awhile. I mean, where else can I read about player Brian Austin Green and his hot ex-girlfriend Megan Fox! Gossip like that will keep me reading I guess. Good gossip sites that are not talking about Miley Cyrus 24/7 are worthwhile for a brain break.

Do I feel guilty about the above post about DaddySpankGood? Nah, check out some of the posts I have recently done for SiliconANGLEGinx (which I did before this one!), Virgin’s announcement yesterday at FOWA, and my first one about MyLife the new all in one search place.

Technically Speaking, as I search for that next gig, I have been doing some blogging over on SiliconANGLE which is John Furrier’s new venture. I’m over there along with Mark “Rizzn” Hopkins, a former Mashable blogger. If nothing else, it does help me to get into a writing groove again!

A Tweet that didn’t mince words for #STL

February 22nd, 2009 Rex Dixon Comments

I just so happened to be on twitter search a few hours ago when I saw the #followlist tweet. While I was there checking that out, I decided to see what was up in the #STL. The below was sitting at the top of the list. I just went back on another search for #iab, and it was still sitting at the top of the list.

stl-twitter-search

The question is – who is @thedarz and why is his hate for the STL so big that he has to come out and F-Bomb the whole city? Interesting things you find via hashtags.

Update: One of the cool things about blogging, is sometimes you can get immediate reaction. My apologies to @jjeffryes, at times I can pull the trigger really quick, in this case I was totally wrong about this person.

Another thing that I saw was this guy here, @jjeffryes saying how the STL is 10 years behind in social media. He even went on to say it again via another tweet right here. Yes, I went to his site – saw no way to contact him – so left a comment on the blog post he had there. I even did a ping on his above tweet.

Technically Speaking, the first part of being any type of social media person, is the first part of that over used phrase. If you can’t be social or even respond to pings that you asked for, than you may as well be classified in the first F-bomb person’s group.
